Saturday Morning Breakfast

I substituted 1/4 C pureed dates for the 1/4 C sugar requested in these flax pancakes....and of course I used the OmniBlend to make the puree by putting all of the wet ingredients (including the dates) into the blender for 60 sec.

Green LEMONADE

This morning's smoothie reminded me of warm summer days....and since we are having wonderful spring like weather, it seemed fitting.  I love how the OmniBlend blends the spinach into a smooth juice...no lumps of leaves left to chew or choke on.  I am really loving the citrus flavours these days, and this one is one of my favorite "pick me ups".....great first thing in the morning or at the 3:00 pm crash.

GREEN LEMONADE recipe:
  • 3 C packed spinach
  • 1/2 peeled lemon
  • handful green grapes
  • 2 tbsp honey (or to desired taste)
  • DHA omega oil
  • 1 C orange juice
  • 1 C pure water
  • 4 ice cubes
layer in blender with spinach on bottom.  blend using the 60 second button on the OmniBlend V blender.

Enjoy!

Milkshake

Milkshake recipe:
  • 1/2 C frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 C frozen mango chunks
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2 scoops strawberry ice cream
  • 1.5 C whole milk
  • DHA oil
blend together with the 90 sec. button.....Enjoy!

A big part of having your kids drink green smoothies is allowing them to create their own recipes, even if it means having a MILKSHAKE!  Our daughter was very excited about creating her own blend today...ice cream, raspberries, mango, banana...and she even asked for the DHA omega oil....I have to say that moment made me proud!  No greens, but that is ok...she drank her greens this morning with breakfast.  I really enjoyed watching both of our children enjoying such a simple pleasure.

Enjoy!

Greens for Breakfast

Presently, our family enjoys two green smoothies each day...one to start the day off with energy that lasts!  This morning I was playing around with some breakfast ingredients like yogurt and quinoa flakes (usually cooked like oatmeal) and it turned out to be a nice flavour and consistency!

Cabbage and beet tops are a really easy way for kids to get their raw greens in.  Their flavours are mild and the smoothie doesn't even look green...perfect for your first time smoothie drinkers (adults and kids a like).

breakfast ingredients

Greens for Breakfast recipe:
- 1 handful of shredded cabbage (coleslaw)
- 1 large beet top
- 1 peeled navel orange
- 1 frozen ripe banana
- 4 frozen strawberries
- 1/4 C quinoa flakes
- 1 tsp ground flax seed
- 1 tsp chia seed (salba)
- 1/2 C vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 C cherry pom juice
- 1 C pure water

- optional to add ice cubes for a thicker "slushy" texture
- optional to add 1-2 tsp honey to taste

Layer all the ingredients (in order listed) with the frozen ones at the top of the blender (added last).  The weight of the frozen ingredients gently pushes them to the bottom and blends the whole smoothie together effortlessly.  I used the pulse button, pushing it 5 times to break up the frozen fruit, then I pressed the 60 sec. button and let the OmniBlend smooth it all together.

Time Saving Tip:  pre-measure and wash enough fruit and veg. and freeze in separate containers.  All you have to do is add the fresh ingredients for a quick and healthy snack or meal.

Enjoy!
